The pronghorn of North America, though a member of the family Antilocapridae, is also sometimes referred to as an antelope. The term has no meaning

Royal Antelope: species Neotragus pygmaeus, tiny antelope, family Bovidae order Artiodactyla, found alone or in pairs in dense West African forests. It is the smallest of antelopes and stands only 25cm 10 inches high at the shoulder. It is reddish brown with white underparts

Sable Antelope: Hippotragus niger, handsome antelope, family Bovidae order Artiodactyla, that lives in herds in forests of southern Africa. Like the related roan antelope H.equinus, the sable antelope is a graceful animal with an erect mane, long ears, long hair on the throat, and long, parallel,

Roan antelope: Hippotragus equinus, African antelope, family Bovidae order Artiodactyla, found in small groups on plains and scrublands. Microsoft Encarta Online Antelope is the common name applied to a large group of hollow-horned ruminants of the same family as cattle, goats, and sheep. The group comprises about 150 species, of which most are found in Africa and the remainder in Asia. No true antelope is native to the Americas. The closest relative in the United States is the Rocky Mountain goat because it has structural characteristics of the antelope.

Antelope range in size from the tiny Royal Antelope, which stands about 25 cm (about 10 in) high at the shoulder, to the giant Eland about 1.8 m (about 5.9 ft) in height and weighing up to about 680 kg (about 1500 lb). The corkscrew horns of a large African antelope, the Kudu, grow up to about 1.5 m (about 5 ft) in length. Unlike the deer, which they resemble in body and in habits, antelope have unbranched, hollow horns that are never shed. Antelope are generally swift, and some species are the fastest of the quadrupeds, attaining speeds of 97 km/h (60 mph). Antelope are often brilliantly colored live in open plains, marshes, deserts, or forests, according to the species. Some are solitary, but many species travel in herds.

  • Four Preparation Tips form the Hunting Society

    1. The best hunters are planners. Do it scientifically and don't rely on your memory or instinct unless when you can have real data.

    2. Scout your hunting area off season. Make a map showing deer sightings and signs ..

    3. Record your sightings and signs separately, if possible on a topographical map. Look for patterns of movement. Try to track migration by time. This will help you know where to set up our stand during hunting season.

    4. Put Lanocaine or Solarcaine in your hunting kit. They are marvelous for poison ivy and mosquito bite itches. Since odors are acid, use baking soda to neutralize your own and other odors.
